Rapid detection of Mycobacterium chelonei ss abscessus by a radiometric technique.

چکیده
Mycobacterium chelonei ss abscessus was isolated from a subcutaneous abscess that had been submitted in Bactec blood culture bottles. Detection occurred in three days as compared to seven days in classical mycobacterial media.

In vitro activity of roxithromycin against 16 species of atypical mycobacteria and effect of pH on its radiometric MICs.
The antimycobacterial spectrum of roxithromycin, a semisynthetic 14-membered ring macrolide, was determined against 28 strains belonging to 16 species of atypical mycobacteria by measuring radiometric MICs by BACTEC methodology at two different pH values, i.e., 6.8 and 7.4. The MICs obtained at pH 7.4 were 1 to 2 dilutions lower or more than those obtained at pH 6.8 for some of the species. Rox...
متن کاملIdentification of Mycobacterium fortuitum and Mycobacterium chelonei.
The study of 52 strains of rapidly growing mycobacteria showed that Mycobacterium fortuitum and M. chelonei were clearly distinguished by the aid of seven key tests (nitrate reductase, iron uptake, beta-glucosidase, penicillinase, growth on fructose, resistance to pipemidic acid, and resistance to capreomycin) and by analysis of their respective mycolic acids. However, the subdivision of these ...
متن کاملProsthetic valve endocarditis due to Mycobacterium chelonei.
Starr-Edwards mitral and aortic prosthetic valves served as nidi for endocarditis due to M chelonei. Cultural, physiologic, lipid chromatographic, and serologic studies identified the organism as M chelonei (abscessus).
متن کاملEnzymatic and immunological characterization of the Mycobacterium fortuitum complex.
The arylsulfatase isozymes of Mycobacterium fortuitum, M. peregrinum, M. chelonei subsp. chelonei, and M. chelonei subsp. abscessus were examined to determine the isozymal and immunological relationship among the members of the M. fortuitum complex. Cell extracts were subjected to electrophoresis on agarose and polyacrylamide gel, and arylsulfatase activity was localized using beta-naphthyl sul...
متن کاملDisk diffusion testing with polymyxin and amikacin for differentiation of Mycobacterium fortuitum and Mycobacterium chelonei.
Disk diffusion is one method of susceptibility testing of the Mycobacterium fortuitum complex to antibacterial agents. We utilized disks of polymyxin B (300 U), amikacin, and kanamycin to determine whether they could also be used for species identification when compared with standard biochemical methods. With the polymyxin disk, 100% of 75 M. fortuitum strains produced zones of inhibition, wher...
